Thornton has always been intrigued by psychology, sociology, and the experiences that help compile who people identify themselves to be. She focuses on subjects close to her over time, from spirituality, to depression, intimacy, and now sleep, creating works she feels personifies elements of these ideas. Thornton transitioned from figurative oil paint to collage in 2017, though she still approaches her process as if she were painting. Thornton feels that the compilation of magazine page clippings to create the likeness of a person mirrors the building up of individual combined experiences that make each person who they are over time.
